James Kontras, DVM
A general practitioner and co-owner of Cherokee Animal Clinic, Dr. James Kontras has helped care for pets here since 1995. Originally from Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Kontras has wanted to work with pets from a young age and finds a special joy in working with and healing animals.
Dr. Kontras attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and received his Bachelor's Degree in Zoology in 1972. He continued his veterinary education at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1976.
Dr. Kontras is the father of two adult sons, Alexi and Evan. He and his wife Elizabeth love to travel, and favorite destinations include New Mexico and the Pacific Northwest. His hobbies include ceramics, oil/acrylic painting, gardening, tennis, and ballroom dancing with his wife. He and Elizabeth share their home with four adopted cats, Babette, Kiki, Pippin and Mishka.
