Urban Legend #6: Ice Water causes Bloat   NOT TRUE

Bloat is caused when the stomach distends abnormally and sometimes results in torsion, in which the stomach actually twists.  This is very serious and can actually lead to death.  HOWEVER, there is no evidence suggesting that ice water or ice cubes can cause this condition or is unsafe.  The exception is that owners should never offer ice water to a dog suffering from heatstroke because it will cause a dangerous drastic drop in temperature.
